The Red Door Chronicles (Kindle Edition)

The Red Door Chronicles
The Red Door Chronicles (Kindle Edition)
By David J. Khan

Review & Description

Genre : Mystery / Suspense

Part 1 of 3

Word count: 93650

Description:

Like life, the search for answers can be a journey that is as exasperating as it can be rewarding, and like an Egyptian archaeologist that would love to find an undiscovered tomb, for Richard Osiris Hades the truth and answers that he hunts is a thirst that only a man lost at sea could understand.

Having been left with no choice but to emigrate from Canada to evade the relentless and judging eyes of his community, he re-roots himself in England hoping for a fresh start. However, the cruel hand of fate it seems is not finished dealing its scornful deck, and after stumbling upon a kidnapping and being left for dead does his world really start to spiral out of control. Awaking, he soon finds himself in a world of murder, conspiracy and deception, which all points to an evil that lingers behind doors scattered across the world that are oddly all red.

Will he find what he is looking for, or will whatever is taking solace behind these cold red doors deny his true destiny?

The journal:

Imagine for a fleeting moment that you stumble upon a book – its cover dusty. You blow the dust away; the red colour of the bind appearing faded and worn. You run your free hand over and down the cover; the sensation of a braille-like texture tickling the tips of your fingers – it feels old. You flip the book now only to find the back like the front – void of information. Your interest is piqued, so you carefully open the book; the cover crackling like it doesn’t want the contents within to be released. You gaze down now upon the first page with curious eyes and are met with graceful handwriting, indicating that whoever wrote it had an educated hand. You begin to read the elegantly formed words and though you’re no closer to discovering the origin of the book – nor the author, it soon becomes clear that the book is not a book; it’s a journal ... a journal that harbours a message and warning suggesting you read no further.

The message:

Let me ask you a question, have you ever been curious?

I mean insatiably curious, the type of curious that you can taste, the sort that leaves you so frustrated that you cannot sleep at night ... with a single, overpowering sensation keeping slumber at bay ... the sensation that you needed to know ... that you had to know!

Good ... then we are alike, you and I.

I won’t tell you that my tale is truth; I won’t tell you that it is fact! What I will say is simple, what I will say is this. I will never lie to you ... I will never deceive or trick you ... I have no motives, no goals, just a wish; a simple wish. Learn from my mistakes ... learn from my past, don’t ask questions and don’t open doors you cannot close.

But ... if you are truly like me then this warning will go unheeded ... and I smile because I know that one day the world will know the truth, and my life – or death, will not have been in vain.

I’ll leave you with this one parting gift. If you find yourself alone on a warm summers eve when suddenly, a cold breeze catches the back of your neck making your hairs stand on end, know this ... it is cold when they are close!
